Tsering Woeser, born in Lhasa in 1966, is a Tibetan poet and essayist. She has written 21 books in Chinese, with 18 translations of her work published in nine other languages, including Voices from Tibet (2014) and Tibet on Fire (2016) in English, as well as translations of her selected online articles at the website High Peaks, Pure Earth. Woeser has received the Prince Claus Award from the Netherlands, and the U.S. Department of State’s International Women of Courage Award. A prominent commentator on the Tibet issue, she lives under close surveillance in Beijing.
